We are absolutely delighted to announce that this week, OurGreenRoom were chosen by no other than the legend that is Theo Paphitis as one of his winners in his weekly twitter competition; Small Business Sunday, or #SBS as it's known in Twitter land!
Theo runs a weekly competition, whereby between the hours of 5pm - 7pm on a Sunday, if you tweet him about your business he will take a look at your site or page and picks six lucky winners to retweet from his page; basically advertising your business for you to 145,000+ followers. Its almost like being mentioned on television or radio by a celebrity, and the fact that he is renowned for being a retail guru; it makes it all the more exciting if you are a retailer - the big man approves! Literally hundreds of thousands of businesses exist on Twitter and to be personally selected is, well, a great honour - and as Robbi put it - that's a big deal!
Armed with a sentence about our business, I tweeted Theo at around 5.30pm. I really didn’t expect to win, since it was the first time we had entered, and I had only been on Twitter actively for about a week after a fellow shop owner from Bradford -on-Avon, Jackie (runs Piha surf n' ski at the top of the hill) suggested that I should really get into it at a Women's Business Networking Meeting she runs.
I pondered over the Tweet for a while, thinking about why I felt we deserved a re-tweet. People often tell us that they think what we do is amazing, we have 3 children including an 8 month old, are only 27 and 29 years of age and work 24/7 on our business both online and in the shop. People are also surprised to discover that all the products are made by hand, by me, that I do all the accounts and that we designed the website from scratch, all by ourselves. I design, Robbi fills in! Not only that but people LOVE our products when they see how bright and colourful they are. Even when they might not be to someone’s taste, they can’t fail to bring a smile.
Sometimes if we have a bad couple of weeks it's hard to keep on believing in yourself, you start to doubt what you do, doubt the products, think; what are we doing wrong! One single complaint can knock our confidence, but the overwhelming amount of positive feedback from our site and products keeps us going - and what a boost in confidence, to be officially 'liked' by Theo Paphitis himself! Obviously he has not scrutinized the business in detail, but the first impression was a good one, and that is what is most important in retail. If you fail at the first meeting with your potential customer or business partner, they won't come back.
So how could I sum all that up in 160 characters? Hmm well quite a few of those is taken up by @TheoPaphitis, and including the compulsory #SBS tag. Doesn’t leave much.
I decided to be honest, human, but commercial too. So including our strap line (which sums up what we do and our style), our ages (as that seems to be quite a good selling point), the fact that we have 3 kids (so we must work very hard - which we do), and that we have determination to succeed. Here is what I wrote:
"Brighten up your home! Exciting new home decor shop run by determined 27/29 yr old parents of 3 - from scratch!"

Sneak Preview - OurGreenRoom Curtain Range
Working hard on the Green Range today - funnily enough it's my favourite colour! Im going to be spending most of the day creating the product images for our new Wall art & Cushion range, and there are some cracking ones in there!
Then, this afternoon, I'm starting work on the curtains. Ive sent Rob along to featch the fabric for one of my favourites, Orgras by Mairo. We thought this season it would be good to bring in some more neutral colours, to blend better with people's existing decor.
This fabric will form part of our collection available in Wall Art, Cushions and Curtains, and comes in yellow, red, black and white and green. The design I find very calming and pretty and will act as a lovely replacemnt for the Gingko which sadly will be discountinued as the matching cushion print, Marimekko Biloba is now out of print.

OurGreenRoom - the largest online selection of matching Wall Art & Cushions
Did you know that OurGreenRoom (that's us) has the largest online selection of matching modern wall art and cushions in the UK?
We are the only place where you can view and buy wall art, cushions and curtains to mix and match - making it much easier to decorate you home.
It can be difficult when trying to buy wall art for a room, you may find a nice abstract print from one shop, and then you have to find another retailer to get the cushions for your sofa or bed, and it can be a hard task tying it all in. Curtains are the way forward - we've decided!
After a good bit of curtain hanging in the OurGreenRoom household, and following years of requests for curtains (normally faced with my unwillingness to do them), I've decided it's probably time we just bite the bullet.
As a soft furnisher, curtains, whilst they can earn a good income have always been off-putting for me. Fiddly, time consuming and just one project can take over a whole week - NOT practical when you have 3 children and a business to run!
So...with inspriration from these Valilla curtains, and god knows how I didnt notice it before, but Ikea too, I am now going to be making, simple, unlined, ready to hang curtains in most of the fabrics we will have in our collection. Kind of no frills, but still effective.
We are estimating that prices will start at around £110 for one drop measuring 240 x 140cm, exactly like the valilla curtains, to fit most windows. The tape used will allow you to hang for different drops and we will include webbing which will make is easy peasy to hang up. So yep, like Ikea, but better because the fabrics are ten times more fantastic.

Vallila - Finnish Design - Ready made!
Robbi and I have been really excited to come across a new range of ready made curtains whilst looking at new fabrics for the OurGreenRoom winter collection. But not like what you get from, ahem, Argos - these curtains are really exciting! But who would expect less from Finland - boy do they know how to design fabric!
Vallila is a Finnish Interiors company, and among other fabulous collections, they have a range of beautiful, large scale ready made curtains. My personal favourite is Kotiin - a large scale pint featuring swans in flight and it comes in a rage of colours; light blue, deep purple, bright orange, black and white, and beige - one for most colour schemes. Robbi and I are going to go for the duck egg blue version with lovely hints of yellow, white and dove grey for a large window on our stairwell. Shown here in this lovely image from Valilla you can see how absolutely beautiful it is.
By looking at the designs, you would presume they were expensive, but considering they are ready to hang and have a whopping drop of 240cm - large enough for even georgian windows, at only £60 from Shannon you may have yourself a bit of a bargain...I've seen similar prices in B&Q for designs that are not really that innovative, and of course - most of your friends are likley to have something similar.
The curtains are on sale exclusively through Shannon in Bath, and at the moment it is the only UK shop to stock the curtains both online and in store. In the shop the owner also holds most of the books, allowing you to see all colours and designs available for this season.
In fact - we are off there now to get some for our living room! Cheerio!

Coming Soon - Childrens Wall Art
OurGreenRoom have been busy getting our new collection of modern wall art and cushions sorted for Winter 2012. Among some really new, exciting and exclusive prints, we will also be launching our new collection of childrens wall art in a delightful range of Moomin fabrics!
The Moomin fabrics are absolutely fabulous and great fun. The colours are bright and we have one for a boy and one for a girl plus a neutral.
We have already provided one to growing needs' baby room, where they offer several courses and treatments for monther and baby. The wall art was provided free of change by OurGreenRoom to give the babies something bright and smiley to look at whilst giving the room a modern and fun new look - a great way to compliment thier bright and innovative range of modern baby and family related products.

Furnish.co.uk - your home interiors personal shopper
This week sees OurGreenRoom listed on Furnish. Furnish is a one stop shop for contemporary, independent and high-end desgner homewares. They believe it's thier careful selection of designer finds and modern treasures that makes them such a great resource. They don't list everything under the sun and everything is hand chosen by a panel of experts. They claim to only show you the most gorgeous gifts for the home, whilst supporting good design and helping promote independent home furnishing stores and designers. The selection of modern wall art and cushions is exceptional and they even feature Limited Edition, whom we wrote about in our blogg yesterday.

Wall Power - Digital Wall Art from NONO
Having spent some time browsing modern wall art online last night, I remembered an old book I had from when I worked as a soft furnishing specialist for Frances Rose. NONO- Wallpower was a modern and bold collection of 'Digital Wall Art' pieces that ceratinly had the wow factor; I was intrigued to know if it still was on sale having lost touch with that particular supplier.
And there it was, NONO 'WallPower' seems to be still for sale. I would thoroughly recommend checking out the collection, 5 years on, it's still as current as it was back then - the designs are simply stunning! Prices are not available on the site, but I imagine you need to contact your nearast stockist to purchase; but don't worry OurGreenRoom are already on the case to stock them online!
From what I remember of the collection prices were between £100 - £300 but remember these pieces cover a whole wall, and so can be excellent value for money. If you paint the rest of the walls with a neutral colour, you have decorated a room for a few hundred quid - not bad.

New Wall Art find in Finnish Wall Art shop....
Todays lovely new wall art find is from Finnish store Seinäruusu Oy. Not only do they sell a massive range of Marimekko Wallpaper, but they retail these fantastic digital wall art pieces. This one that we have featured covers a massive 280 x 279cm, and looks very pretty as diaplyed against a vintage blue wall.
It doesnt stop there though - their range of wall art is huge with a beautiful suprise on every page. This particular piece Eijffinger Pip tapetti will set you back a mere £268, pretty good value when you consider the time and effort it takes, not to metion cost, of purchasing and decorating with wall paper.....and I doubt your next door neighbours will have the same print!
